KRW stands for South Korean won, a currency abbreviation.
South Korea's currency, issued by the Bank of Korea, with prices quoted in whole won and large numbers: a coffee in Seoul costs around 5,000 won. The largest banknote, worth 50,000 won, was introduced in 2009.
Example: The flight from Seoul to Jeju was KRW 89,000 one way.
Usage notes
The won is officially divided into 100 jeon, though jeon are no longer used. The 50,000-won note portrays the artist Shin Saimdang, the first woman to appear on a South Korean banknote. North Korea issues a separate won, coded KPW. Because Korea is export-heavy, KRW is watched as a bellwether of global trade.
