Usage notes
In World of Warcraft, a Horde player's "lol" appeared to Alliance players as "kek" because of the game's cross-faction language filter; the Korean laughing sound ㅋㅋㅋ (romanized "kekeke"), familiar from StarCraft chat, is often cited as an influence. Image-board users later turned "kek" into a meme with its own mascot. The Twitch emote KEKW shows a laughing man.
