intro. stands for Introduction, a citation and bibliography abbreviation.

Refers to the introduction of a book in citations, or to the person who wrote it, as in "intro. by Toni Morrison." Introductions to classics are often cited separately from the main text.

Example: The 2011 paperback adds a new intro. by the novelist, which critics often cite separately from the stories.

Usage notes

MLA lists an introduction as its own entry when citing it, beginning with the introducer's name and the word "Introduction." An introduction differs from a foreword, usually written by someone other than the author, and a preface, usually written by the author. In everyday speech, "intro" is a clipping for any introduction, as in a song intro.
