ILI stands for Influenza-like illness, an infectious disease abbreviation.
Surveillance definition of a fever of 100°F (37.8°C) or higher together with cough or sore throat, without another known cause. Public health agencies track the percentage of clinic visits for ILI to monitor flu seasons.
Example: Outpatient ILI visits rose to 5.8 percent this week, above the national baseline.
Usage notes
The CDC's ILINet network collects these data from thousands of outpatient providers. ILI is not a diagnosis of influenza: many other viruses, including RSV and SARS-CoV-2, produce the same symptoms. Pronounced as letters.
