EB-5 stands for EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, a public program abbreviation.
Green card category for foreign investors who put at least $1,050,000, or $800,000 in a targeted employment area, into a US business that creates at least 10 full-time jobs for US workers.
Example: The hotel project raised $60 million from EB-5 investors through a regional center.
Usage notes
Since the Immigration Act of 1990, the program has allotted about 10,000 visas a year. Investment minimums were raised by the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022. Many investments go through regional centers that pool money for large projects, a model criticized for fraud cases and for stretching the definition of high-unemployment areas.
