CUL8R stands for See you later, a texting and chat abbreviation.

Letter-and-number goodbye that spells out the sounds C-U-L-8-R. It became a showcase example of 2000s SMS language and was quoted again and again in newspaper stories worrying about how teenagers text.

Usage notes

Linguist David Crystal's book "Txtng: The Gr8 Db8" (2008) examined spellings like cul8r and argued that texting does not damage literacy. Today the spelling seems retro, and younger users favor "ttyl" or "later." Pronounced "see you later."
