CCRC stands for Continuing care retirement community, a hospital abbreviation.
Residential campus offering several levels of care, usually independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing, so residents can move between them as their needs change. Most require an entrance fee plus monthly fees.
Example: Patient lives in CCRC independent apartment; will return to its skilled unit for rehab.
Usage notes
Also called a life plan community. Contracts range from all-inclusive "Type A" agreements to fee-for-service arrangements. CCRCs are regulated mainly by states, often through insurance departments, because of the long-term financial commitments involved.
