B/S stands for Balance sheet, an accounting abbreviation.
Financial statement showing a company's assets, liabilities and shareholders' equity at a specific date, based on the equation assets equal liabilities plus equity. It shows what the company owns, what it owes and the owners' residual stake.
Example: The acquisition added $2.3 billion of goodwill to the B/S.
Usage notes
Also written BS in accountants' shorthand, though B/S avoids ambiguity. Under IFRS the formal name is the statement of financial position. Unlike the income statement, which covers a period, the balance sheet is a snapshot at a single date, usually the end of a quarter or year.
