Aff. stands for Affidavit, a litigation abbreviation.
Written statement of facts sworn before a notary or other officer authorized to administer oaths, used to support motions and other filings. Briefs cite it by the affiant's name and paragraph, as in "Smith Aff. ¶ 4".
Example: According to the landlord's own records, Jones Aff. ¶ 6, the rent was paid in full through March.
Usage notes
An affidavit differs from a declaration, which is signed under penalty of perjury without a notary; 28 U.S.C. § 1746 allows declarations in place of affidavits in most federal matters. Affidavits supporting summary judgment must rest on personal knowledge. The person who signs is the affiant.
