A.D.3d stands for Appellate Division Reports, Third Series, a legal citation abbreviation.
Official reports of decisions of the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court, the state's intermediate appellate court; the third series began in 2003. Many brief memorandum decisions on negligence, contracts and procedure appear here and in N.Y.S.3d.
Example: The Second Department's A.D.3d decision affirmed dismissal of the slip-and-fall claim.
Usage notes
New York style writes "AD3d" and identifies the department and year in brackets, such as "[2d Dept 2019]". A.D.2d covered 1955 to 2003. Because the four Departments sometimes disagree, a citation should always say which one decided the case.
