VLE stands for Virtual learning environment, an academic abbreviation.

British and European term for an online platform such as Moodle, Blackboard or Canvas through which a school or university provides course materials, assignments, discussion forums and grades. It corresponds to the American LMS.

Example: Lecture recordings will be posted on the VLE within 24 hours.

Usage notes

Universities in the UK often give their VLE an in-house name, so students may know it only as "Moodle" or by a local brand. Some writers distinguish the VLE, focused on teaching, from the LMS, focused on administration, but the terms are largely interchangeable.
