T&E stands for Travel and expenses, an accounting abbreviation.
Business costs employees incur while traveling or entertaining for work, such as airfare, hotels, meals, mileage and client entertainment, which are reimbursed through an expense report or paid with a corporate card. T&E policies set limits and approval rules.
Example: Under the new T&E policy, hotel stays above $250 a night need director approval.
Usage notes
Also expanded as "travel and entertainment." Expense management software such as SAP Concur and Expensify automates T&E reporting. Tax rules limit deductibility: since 2018 most US business entertainment is no longer deductible, while business meals are generally 50 percent deductible.
