SERE stands for Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape, a military term abbreviation.

Usage notes
The most intense courses include a mock prisoner-of-war camp. The Air Force runs its main course at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, and the Army at Camp Mackall, North Carolina. After 2001, techniques from SERE resistance training were adapted for CIA interrogations, a controversy later examined by Congress.
