Scottish bank, now part of NatWest Group, providing retail and commercial banking in Scotland. Until 2020 RBS was also the name of the whole group.

Usage notes
Founded in Edinburgh in 1727. After its 2007 takeover of ABN AMRO, RBS needed a UK government bailout in 2008, briefly becoming one of the largest banks in the world by assets before its near collapse. The group renamed itself NatWest Group in 2020 and returned to full private ownership in 2025. RBS still issues its own Scottish banknotes.
