QoQ stands for Quarter over quarter, an accounting abbreviation also used in measurement.
Comparison of a figure with the immediately preceding quarter, such as third-quarter sales against second-quarter sales, expressed as a percentage change. It shows short-term momentum but can be distorted by seasonality.
Example: Subscribers grew 4 percent QoQ, slightly slower than the prior quarter's 5 percent.
Usage notes
Also written Q/Q or q/q, and "sequential growth" means the same thing. For seasonal businesses such as retail, QoQ comparisons are less meaningful than YoY. US GDP growth is reported as a quarter-over-quarter change at an annualized rate, while many other countries report the non-annualized rate.
