PDMP stands for Prescription drug monitoring program, a pharmacy abbreviation.
State electronic database that records dispensed controlled-substance prescriptions, letting prescribers and pharmacists see a patient's history of opioids, benzodiazepines and stimulants before prescribing or dispensing. Every US state now runs one.
Example: PDMP checked before discharge: three opioid fills from different prescribers in the past month.
Usage notes
Also called a PMP (prescription monitoring program). Missouri was the last state to adopt a statewide program. Many states require prescribers to check the PDMP before issuing opioids, and interstate data-sharing hubs let pharmacists see out-of-state fills. Critics note that PDMP risk scores can unfairly flag patients with complex pain conditions.
