Usage notes
Founded by Bill France Sr. at a meeting in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1948, and controlled by the France family ever since. Pronounced as a word, "NAS-car". "Stock car" originally meant an unmodified showroom car; today's purpose-built Next Gen car debuted in 2022. A playoff format, first called the Chase, began in 2004.
