LDD stands for Limited distribution drug, a pharmacy abbreviation.
Medication that the manufacturer makes available only through a small number of selected specialty pharmacies or distributors, often because of REMS requirements, special handling or a very small patient population.
Example: The drug is LDD; only two specialty pharmacies nationwide can dispense it.
Usage notes
Limited distribution helps manufacturers control safety programs and collect data, but it can delay access and limit pharmacy choice. Critics argued it was also used to stop generic companies from obtaining samples, which the 2019 CREATES Act was designed to counter.
