National federation of Canadian unions, representing about three million workers through affiliated national and international unions, provincial federations and local labor councils.
Example: The CLC called for national pharmacare and stronger employment insurance.
Usage notes
The 1956 merger of the Trades and Labor Congress of Canada and the Canadian Congress of Labour created it. In 1961 it joined with the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation to found the New Democratic Party. It is the Canadian counterpart of the AFL-CIO.
