1. Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome
Medical · Gastroenterology Abbreviations
Repeated bouts of severe nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain in long-term, frequent cannabis users, often relieved by hot showers or baths. Emergency visits have risen as cannabis potency and legal access have increased; lasting cure requires stopping cannabis.
Example: Daily cannabis for 6 years, vomiting episodes relieved by hot showers; CHS, topical capsaicin and haloperidol given.
First described in South Australia in 2004. Standard antiemetics often work poorly, while haloperidol and topical capsaicin cream can help. Symptoms may take weeks to resolve after cessation. Its episodes closely mimic cyclic vomiting syndrome, and a careful cannabis history is the key to telling them apart.
2. Charleston International Airport
Transportation & Travel · Airport Code Abbreviations
Shared with Joint Base Charleston, home to US Air Force C-17 transports, this South Carolina airport also has Boeing's 787 Dreamliner final assembly plant beside the airfield.
Example: Watched a brand-new 787 take off from CHS while we waited at the gate.
ICAO code KCHS. Boeing has assembled all 787s in North Charleston since 2021, moving the work from Everett, Washington. Tourism to Charleston's historic district has driven rapid passenger growth. Joint civil-military use means military transports regularly share the pattern with airliners.
