Candidates pass a four-section exam on financial transactions and fraud schemes, law, investigation and fraud prevention and deterrence.

Example: A CFE traced the missing funds through a network of shell vendors.

Usage notes

The ACFE was founded in 1988 by criminologist Joseph Wells and is based in Austin, Texas. Eligibility combines education and professional experience in a points system. In Canadian accounting, CFE also refers to the Common Final Examination for CPA candidates.
