BMAT stands for BioMedical Admissions Test, a standardized test abbreviation.
Former Cambridge Assessment test for medicine, biomedical science and veterinary applicants at universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and UCL, combining thinking skills, scientific knowledge and a writing task. Its final sitting was in October 2023, for 2024 entry.
Example: Older guides recommend starting BMAT preparation in the summer before Year 13.
Usage notes
After its withdrawal the former BMAT universities moved to the UCAT. Unlike the aptitude-focused UCAT, BMAT Section 2 tested GCSE-level science and math knowledge. Students still encounter the name in older admissions statistics and prep books.
