BIBA stands for Brought in by ambulance, an emergency medicine abbreviation.
Arrival mode noted in British, Irish, Australian and New Zealand emergency department records for patients transported by ambulance. It usually opens the clerking note before the presenting complaint.
Example: BIBA following collapse at home; GCS 14 on arrival.
Usage notes
The American equivalent is BIBEMS or "arrived by EMS". Arrival mode is recorded because ambulance patients tend to be sicker and often need faster assessment. Ambulance handover delays are tracked closely by the NHS.
