ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence, a professional certification abbreviation.
Certification program run by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, founded in 1972, under which mechanics pass exams in areas such as engine repair, brakes and electrical systems. Technicians who pass the core automobile tests and have experience become Master Technicians.
Example: Our shop employs ASE-certified technicians for every brake and suspension job.
Usage notes
Certification requires two years of hands-on experience, though training can substitute for part of it. Credentials must be renewed every five years. Shops with a high share of certified staff can display ASE's Blue Seal of Excellence.
