10-7 stands for Out of service, a police code abbreviation.
Code meaning the officer or unit is out of service, for example on a meal break, off duty or with a broken-down vehicle. Fire services and some agencies also use it in other senses.
Example: Unit 22 is 10-7 for lunch at the diner on Fifth.
Usage notes
In some agencies, "10-7" is also used solemnly to announce that an officer has died, as in a final "end of watch" radio call. Its counterpart is 10-8, back in service. Computer-aided dispatch systems record the times units go in and out of service.
