CategoriesGovernment & Politics

10-20 stands for Location, a police code abbreviation.

Code used to ask for or report a location, as in "What's your 10-20?" It is one of the best-known ten-codes outside policing, popularized by CB radio and films.

Example: Unit 12, what's your 10-20? I'm at Oak and Third.

Usage notes

"What's your twenty?" became everyday slang for "where are you?" The code appears in countless movies and TV shows about truckers and police. GPS tracking of patrol cars has reduced the need for location requests on the radio.
